Our Human-First Privacy Policy

Data protection and privacy visualization

Last Updated: October 2026

1. Let’s Talk About Privacy, Human to Human

Let’s be honest: you probably didn't wake up today excited to read a privacy policy. Most of these documents are written by lawyers, for lawyers. They are filled with dense, impenetrable jargon that makes your eyes glaze over, usually designed to protect the company rather than the user. But here at Finsiva, we deal with sensitive topics—your money, your taxes, and your financial planning. We believe that when it comes to something as personal as your financial data, you deserve absolute clarity, not a wall of legalese.

This privacy policy is designed to be different. We want to explain exactly how we handle your information in plain, everyday English. We want you to understand our philosophy, our technology, and our commitment to you. Think of this document less as a legal contract and more as a handshake agreement between us. Our promise is simple: we respect your privacy, we don't want your personal data, and we only collect what is absolutely necessary to keep our website running smoothly and securely.

Taxes and finances are stressful enough. Worrying about whether a website is quietly hoarding your salary information or selling your data to advertisers shouldn't add to that stress. So, grab a cup of coffee, get comfortable, and let us explain exactly how we protect your privacy when you use Finsiva.

2. Our Core Philosophy: Your Numbers Stay With You

Imagine walking into a store, picking up a standard, solar-powered pocket calculator from the shelf, typing in a few numbers to check your budget, and then putting it back. That calculator doesn't remember who you are. It doesn't send your calculations to a corporate headquarters. It just does the math and clears the screen when you're done. That is exactly how Finsiva works.

Our tax calculators and financial tools are built using modern web technology that runs entirely client-side. In non-technical terms, this means the calculations happen directly inside your web browser (like Chrome, Safari, or Firefox), right on your computer or mobile device. When you type your annual salary, your tax deductions, or your investment goals into one of our forms, that information never leaves your device. It is never transmitted across the internet to our servers. We never see it, we never store it, and we certainly never share it.

Why do we do this? First, it makes our calculators lightning fast, because they don't have to wait for a server to respond. Second, and more importantly, it entirely eliminates the risk of a data breach. Hackers cannot steal what we do not have. We don't want the immense liability of storing the financial details of thousands of users, and you don't want your sensitive data sitting in a database somewhere. By processing everything locally on your device, everybody wins.

3. The Information We Emphatically Do NOT Collect

To be absolutely clear, here is a list of things we do not collect, store, or process:

  • Your Financial Inputs: Salaries, wages, tax bracket details, deduction amounts, investment returns, or any other numbers you plug into our calculators.
  • Personally Identifiable Information (PII): Your name, physical address, phone number, Social Security Number, National Insurance Number, or any other government-issued ID.
  • Banking Details: Bank account numbers, credit card information, or routing numbers. We do not process payments, so we have absolutely no reason to ask for this information.
  • Cross-Site Tracking Data: We do not follow you around the internet. We do not know what other websites you visit, what you buy on Amazon, or what you watch on YouTube.

If you ever receive an email claiming to be from Finsiva asking for your financial information, please ignore it and report it as phishing. We will never ask you for this data.

4. The (Very Minimal) Information We DO Collect

While we don't want or need your personal or financial data, running a modern, reliable website does require us to collect a small amount of technical and usage information. Here is exactly what we collect and why we need it, explained via a real-world analogy.

Imagine we run a free public park. We don't stop people at the gate to ask for their ID, and we don't follow them around taking notes on their conversations. However, we do place a counter at the gate to see how many people visit each day. We also notice which paths are getting the most foot traffic so we know where to plant more flowers or fix the pavement. And if someone tries to vandalize the park benches, our security cameras might catch a blurry glimpse of the license plate on their getaway car.

Similarly, we collect two types of non-personal data:

A. Anonymized Analytics (The Foot Traffic)
We use privacy-friendly analytics tools to understand how people use our site. This helps us see which calculators are the most popular, which blog posts are being read, and which countries our visitors are coming from. For example, if we notice a huge spike in traffic to our UK tax calculator, we might decide to write more guides about UK tax laws. This data is strictly aggregated—it shows us trends (e.g., "1,000 people clicked the 'Calculate' button today"), but it can never be traced back to an individual user like you.

B. Technical Server Logs (The Security Camera)
When you visit any website on the internet, your browser automatically sends certain technical information to the website's server. This includes your IP address, the type of browser you are using (e.g., Safari on an iPhone), and the time of your visit. We keep these logs for a very short time—usually just a few days—solely for security purposes. If someone tries to launch a cyberattack against Finsiva or spam our servers, these logs help our security systems identify and block the malicious IP addresses. These logs are never linked to your calculator inputs (which, remember, never reach our servers anyway).

5. Cookies: The Good Kind, Not the Creepy Kind

Ah, cookies. Those little text files that websites leave on your computer. In recent years, cookies have gotten a bad reputation because advertising networks use them to stalk you across the web, serving you ads for shoes you looked at once three weeks ago. We don't do that.

At Finsiva, we use cookies in the most innocent, traditional way possible: to remember your preferences so you don't have to re-enter them every time you visit. Specifically, we use cookies for two things:

  • Theme Preferences: If you prefer dark mode over light mode, we place a tiny cookie on your device to remember that choice. That way, the next time you visit, you aren't blinded by a bright white screen.
  • Language/Region Preferences: If you select a specific country or language for your tax calculations, a cookie helps us remember that for your next visit.

That is it. No advertising cookies, no retargeting pixels, no social media tracking scripts. You are completely free to disable cookies in your browser settings. If you do, our calculators will still work perfectly—you just might have to manually click the "Dark Mode" button every time you visit.

6. Keeping the Bad Guys Out: Data Security

Even though we don't store your personal financial data, we still take the security of our website incredibly seriously. You deserve a safe, secure environment when researching your finances.

We enforce HTTPS across the entire Finsiva website. This means that all communication between your browser and our servers is encrypted using bank-grade technology. If you are sitting in a coffee shop using public Wi-Fi, no one snooping on the network can see which pages you are visiting on our site.

Furthermore, our website is hosted on world-class, enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure. These providers employ teams of world-renowned security experts, maintain strict physical security at their data centers, and comply with the highest industry certifications (such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2). We also implement strict security headers to protect against common web vulnerabilities like cross-site scripting (XSS) and clickjacking.

7. Outbound Links to the Rest of the Wild Web

To provide you with the most accurate and helpful information, we frequently link out to external websites. These are usually official government portals (like the IRS in the US, HMRC in the UK, or the ATO in Australia), tax authority documentation, or reputable financial news sources.

While we do our best to only link to trustworthy sites, we do not have any control over them. Once you click a link and leave Finsiva, you are stepping into a different establishment with its own rules. These third-party websites have their own privacy policies, their own cookies, and their own methods of data collection. We strongly encourage you to keep your wits about you and read the privacy policies of those external sites, especially before entering any personal information into a government portal.

8. A Note on Children's Privacy

Taxes and financial planning are inherently adult topics. Unless you are a highly precocious 10-year-old running a remarkably successful lemonade stand (in which case, good for you!), Finsiva is not intended for children.

We do not knowingly collect, solicit, or maintain any information from anyone under the age of 13 (or under the age of 16 in some European jurisdictions). Our content, design, and tools are targeted squarely at adults. If you are a parent or guardian and you discover that your minor child has somehow managed to submit personal information to us—perhaps via an email to our support team—please contact us immediately. We will thoroughly scrub and delete that information from our systems without hesitation.

9. Global Privacy Laws and Your Rights

Over the last few years, the world has seen a wonderful explosion of pro-consumer privacy laws, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Europe, the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) in the US, and many others globally.

These laws grant you fundamental rights regarding your personal data. You have the right to know what data a company holds about you, the right to ask for a copy of it, the right to have it corrected, and the "right to be forgotten" (having your data deleted).

We wholeheartedly support these laws. However, when it comes to Finsiva, responding to these requests is usually quite anti-climactic. If you write to us and say, "I demand to see all the data you have on me, and then I want you to delete it!", our response will essentially be, "We would love to help, but we literally have nothing to show you and nothing to delete." Because we don't store your calculator inputs and only keep anonymized, aggregate analytics, there is no personal profile attached to your name or identity for us to retrieve or erase.

If you have emailed our support team, we do have your email address in our inbox. If you want us to delete that correspondence, just let us know, and we will happily hit the delete button.

10. Exhaustive Privacy FAQs

We know privacy can be confusing. Here are some of the most common, specific questions we receive, answered as plainly as possible:

Q: Can my employer or the government see what I type into your calculators?

A: No. Because the math happens directly in your browser, the numbers never travel across the internet. Neither we, nor your employer, nor the government can intercept your inputs. However, if you are using a computer owned by your employer, they may have spyware or monitoring software installed directly on the machine that records your keystrokes or takes screenshots. That is entirely outside of our control.

Q: Do you sell my data to tax preparation software companies?

A: Absolutely not. We do not sell data to anyone. Since we don't collect your financial data in the first place, we couldn't sell it even if we wanted to (which we don't).

Q: If I print or save a PDF of my calculation, is it saved on your servers?

A: No. If you use a "Print to PDF" function, that action is generated locally by your web browser and saved directly to your computer's hard drive. It does not ping our servers.

Q: Will I start seeing ads for tax services after visiting Finsiva?

A: Not because of us. We do not use retargeting pixels (like the Facebook Pixel or Google Ads tags) that track you to serve ads elsewhere. If you do see tax ads, it is likely because you recently searched for tax topics on Google or Bing, and those search engines are using their own tracking mechanisms.

Q: Where are your servers physically located?

A: We use a global Content Delivery Network (CDN) to host our website. This means copies of our web pages are stored in data centers all over the world. When you visit Finsiva, you are automatically connected to the data center geographically closest to you, which makes the site load faster.

Q: What happens if law enforcement subpoenas you for my data?

A: As a law-abiding entity, we would comply with valid, legally binding court orders. However, if law enforcement demanded to see the salary you typed into our calculator, we would have to inform them that we do not possess that information. We can't hand over what we don't have.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

The internet moves fast, and laws change even faster. As we add new features, build new calculators, or adapt to new global privacy regulations, we may need to update this document.

When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the very top of this page. If we make a massive, fundamental change to how we handle data (for example, if we were to introduce a feature where you could create an account and save your data on our servers), we would not do it quietly. We would announce it loudly on our homepage, giving you plenty of notice to read the new terms and decide if you want to participate.

For minor updates—like fixing typos, updating analogies, or changing our contact email address—we will simply update the page. We encourage you to drop by and read this policy occasionally, just to make sure we are still on the same page.

12. Let's Keep the Conversation Going

We are incredibly proud of our privacy-first approach, and we love talking about it. If anything in this privacy policy was confusing, if you have a specific question we didn't cover in the FAQs, or if you just want to say hello, our inbox is always open.

You can reach out to our privacy team directly by emailing [email protected]. We promise a real, human being will read your message and get back to you as quickly as possible. You can also learn more about the people behind the calculators on our About Us page, or dive into how we ensure accuracy on our Editorial Policy page.

Thank you for trusting Finsiva. We know trust is earned, not given, and we are committed to earning yours every time you use our site.
